Below: In keeping with experience, as soon as we get to any castle, the weather would change for the worse. Here a blizzard while we were touring Rheinfels. A true fortress, built in 1245, it withstood a siege of 28,000 french troops for 18 months in 1692. The French revolutionary army returned in 1797 and destroyed it.
